JUAN MARTÍN 09/05 -18 / 05 JUAN MARTÍN 09/05 -18 / 05 Bate Social Store is proud to present ‘Throwing a stone on the floor would fail’, the first solo exhibition in Madrid by artist Juan Martín.Having completed his studies at the Royal Drawing School, London, England, the artist is forging an artistic path that combines traditional practices with a contemporary approach. The exhibition, organised organically over a short period of time, presents a new series created solely for this occasion during his residency at ‘Dumfries House’ Ayrshire, Scotland and in his studio in London, with a total of 9 canvases, a selection of which will be exhibited during the second week of May in Madrid.Distinctive in its combination of materials and technique, this series uses jute as a support, the artist achieving a characteristic green that dominates all his works, obtained through a previous pigmented primer, infusing the pieces with an atmosphere of optimism and the possibility of change. In popular culture, this colour has been commonly used to convey a sense of calm and tranquillity, but can also have negative connotations to explore themes of competition, rivalry or unfulfilled desire. Experimenting with the airbrush, Juan has found in it a new tool for expression, placing himself between drawing and painting, exploring the relationship between classical and contemporary culture. The sketches are fundamental, serving as the basis on which he builds compositions based on his thoughts and ideas.and ideas. His drive with constant evolution is reflected in each work, seeking to capture moments between before and after, between today and tomorrow, between what was and what will be.‘Throwing a stone on the ground, it would fail’, encapsulates the essence, exploring the idea that even simple actions can lead to unexpected results, challenging the viewer’s perceptions, inviting the audience to explore the space between-moments, where uncertainty and imperfection are transformed into beauty and violence. But this one goes through the hole, to calibrate in round and deep the qualities of impact and the world, which opens inwards and outwards’.Text by Martin Mayorga open 11-20h Mon- Sat 09-18 /05
